HECA Experts Express | AXS Companion & AXS Toolbox: Saving Counselors Time by Streamlining Your Work
June 9, 2026 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM
(EDT)
Description
We will explore why professional associations trust the AXS Companion and how it reduces repetitive “How do I…?” questions related to the Common App, FERPA, activities, essays, courses & grades, and financial aid. The AXS Toolbox supports counselors with free, customizable lesson plans, slide decks, and student worksheets—built by counselors, for counselors—that can be used as templates for workshops, advisory periods, classroom lessons, and family nights. Every resource is editable, easy to implement (“use it tomorrow”), and designed to be embedded on counseling websites or shared school‑ or district‑wide without adding privacy risks or cost barriers. Supported by The AXS Foundation, the AXS Companion aims to increase clarity and access for all students as they navigate the college application process.
Guest Marilyn O'Toole HECA Member, IEC Marilyn O’Toole is an IEC and Certified Educational Planner. She launched The College Consortium in 2007 to create an ethical, professional consortium of experts to advance best practices in the college admissions community. During the pandemic, co-created College Conversations to provide colleagues a professional venue to learn about vital admissions information directly from college admission offices. Marilyn has worked to expand college access for students from limited socioeconomic backgrounds, leading to the development of the AXS Companion in 2022 and the AXS Toolbox for Counselors in 2023. Winner of the Ira Katz Award for service in 2022, member of the IECA Board of Directors from 2022-2025, and current IECA Liaison to Common App. Marilyn established The AXS Foundation, a 501(c)3 in 2023, to expand support for students and counselors with the AXS Companion & AXS Toolbox.
