SUMMARY:HECA College Knowledge Major Talks: Public Policy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for an in-depth exploration of Public Policy as a college major and career pathway. Discover ways to support your students in developing the interests and skills that might lead to Public Policy and other related fields of study and hands-on opportunities to explore outside of the classroom.During this webinar\, we will learn from a graduate student's personal experiences that paved her way from high school to grad school. An academic advisor from the UW-Seattle's Evans School of Public Policy and professor of public policy from Syracuse's Maxwell School of Public Affairs will provide a detailed overview of the undergraduate public policy opportunities at their respective institutions and provide insights on career pathways to enrich our work with our students.\n\n\n\n\nBianca Salazar\nAcademic Advisor\nUW Evans School of Public Policy\n\nBianca has been an advocate for Evans students for more than two years. She enjoys getting to know students through one on one conversations and helping them reach their goals through course planning and advising. In her free time\, she enjoys reading\, knitting\, and hanging out with friends outdoors.\n\n\n\n\nAlisha Supanekar\nPublic Policy Student\nHarvard Kennedy School\n\nAlisha Supanekar is a first-year Master in Public Policy student at Harvard Kennedy School. She earned her B.A. in International Studies   Political Science from the University of California\, San Diego\, with minors in Computational Social Science and Cognitive Science. During college\, she interned with the City of San Diego in the Office of Councilmember Raul Campillo and the Office of Child and Youth Success\, and also worked as a Student Assistant with the UC San Diego Office of Admissions. Before beginning graduate school\, Alisha worked for the City of San Diego as a Community Engagement Coordinator in the Office of Councilmember Marni von Wilpert\, where she fielded constituent concerns\, planned town halls\, and led outreach efforts to connect residents with city services and resources. Her interests include education policy\, housing affordability\, and civic engagement\n\n\n\n\nPete Wilcoxen \nProfessor\nSyracuse UniversityPeter J. Wilcoxen is a professor in the Department of Public Administration and International Affairs at Syracuse University's Maxwell School\, and directs the school's undergraduate Policy Studies Program. He is also a Laura J. and L. Douglas Meredith Professor for Teaching Excellence\, Director of Maxwell's Center for Environmental Policy and Administration\, and a Fellow of the National Academy of Public Administration. He is an economist whose research focuses on environmental and energy policy\, particularly as it relates to climate change or the electric grid. Prior to arriving at Syracuse he taught at the University of Texas at Austin.
