My background is in writing, research, and career path planning, so I get to do all my favorite things in this profession! Before becoming a college advisor, I was a freelance editor and proofreader for seven years. And prior to that, I worked for many years in the non-profit sector writing grants, researching public policy issues, and helping underserved communities. I’ve also been an alumni interviewer and coordinated study abroad programs.
I am a proud alumna of Lowell High School in San Francisco where my lifelong love of learning all started.

With over a decade of combined experience as an independent consultant and as a licensed school counselor in a nationally ranked International Baccalaureate World School, I have supported hundreds of students’ search, application, and matriculation process into selective and highly selective institutions across the United States, Canada, and Europe. I possesses a deep knowledge of high school education systems and how students can best navigate and collaborate with their school-based professionals who need to support their post-secondary processes from the school side. Based in Calgary, Alberta, I provide students and families the opportunity to work locally with someone who understands the unique educational and cultural contexts of Alberta and how to best leverage and articulate these contexts in admissions applications. In addition, I work with students and families across Canada, the United States, and around the world in support of finding the best fitting schools and submitting the most authentic and strongest applications possible.

While I worked with my high school students, I saw how today’s college admissions process has become so complicated that many students (and parents) are now burdened with the great stress and anxiety of planning and getting into colleges that are best for them and determining how to pay. To help students effectively reduce their anxiety and to help them navigate the process, I earned my certificate in College Admissions & Career Planning at UC Berkeley. For the past 6 years, I’ve worked with high school students and their families in academic planning, college search & application, essay guidance, financial aid information, and extracurricular opportunities. I have personally visited over 150 colleges and universities and am active in various professional development and networking groups to stay up with news, trends and ever-changing policies from college admissions. I also actively seek internship and volunteer opportunities for high school students with our local companies and organizations.
Immigrated to the U.S. from Hong Kong when I was 8 years old, I went through the American school systems for both secondary and higher education. My personal background instilled in me the importance of education for our children’s future, and my experiences gave me the knowledge on the complexities of today’s college admissions process. It is my mission to help children and teens thrive academically, socially and in other areas of strength so that they can reach their full potential as global citizens.
