This presentation is intended for new IECs who are setting up their business (or looking to make adjustments to some of their original business decisions). We will cover both basic and strategic topics that should be addressed in order to set goals, avoid some difficulties, and position your business for success.
Areas covered will include:
- Operating as an ethical IEC; The importance of involvement with Professional Organizations; Knowing your "Why?"
- Building your IEC skills
- Contracts are your friend (but I'm no lawyer)
- Building intentional pricing structures that help maintain sanity and restrict "bad things"
- Think of your ideal client and develop an "elevator pitch" that helps solve their problems
- Tech tools - Avoid FOMO and only implement those that serve a purpose for you
- Setting goals - Income, Expenses, and a little Math
Guest Mark Bechthold Mister B's College Crunch Management
Mr. Bechthold is the founder of Mister B's College Crunch Management. He has been an IEC for over 10 years and has been a HECA member for over 7 years. He is also an instructor within the UC Irvine IEC Certificate Program for the course, "Developing an Independent Educational Consulting Business". Mark earned his degree in Biochemistry with a minor in Statistics from UC Davis, and he completed the College Counseling Certificate with the UCLA program. He worked 10 years as an Environmental Analytical Chemist, 10 years negotiating hospital contracts for a Preferred Provider Organization (PPO), and 12 years working for a medical group analyzing physician data. He has a special interest in working with aquatics athletes (both swimming and water polo), prospective nursing students, and prospective STEM majors.
