Summer/Gap Programs
The Foundation for Teaching Economics (FTE) offers several different weeklong pre-college programs for students on university campuses nationwide. FTE’s flagship, Economic for Leaders (EFL) introduces students to the economic way of thinking - an essential tool for effective leadership. Specifically, they learn to use economics to critically consider their own choices and the choices made by others in the world around them. Economic History for Leaders (EHFL) combines the quantitative skills of economics with the critical thinking skills of historical analysis. Participants learn to use economic reasoning to understand pivotal events in American history and take an active role in the choices that individuals made during pivotal historical events. New program offerings in 2022 include Entrepreneurship in the Global Economy (EGE). During this program, FTE staff introduce students to how the economic way of thinking is critical to successful entrepreneurship. Marginal analysis, barriers to entrepreneurship, finance, and marketing are some of the topics explored throughout this program. In addition to academics, FTE pre-college programs provide students additional benefits. They spend a week on a university campus, experience life in a residence hall, receive instruction from university professors and have the option to earn two semester hours of undergraduate credit in economics. Perhaps the most enduring benefit, however, is the friendships participants form. All FTE pre-college programs are open to rising high school juniors and seniors.
