About

You helped your students get into college; now let me help them succeed!

I am a lifelong faculty member (Carleton College) and academic administrator (Carleton, Stanford) with a passion for helping students succeed in college.  I was the Dean of Academic Advising and Associate Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education at Stanford from 2016-2022 and am also the author of the book, Thinking Critically in College:  The Essential Handbook for Student Success, which is now being used with first-year college students at several institutions around the country.

I provide individualized, holistic academic support for college students throughout their academic journeys.  Even the most well-prepared and highly-motivated students often find the transition from high school to college-level academic work challenging, to say nothing of navigating all the other transitions to college life. With 40 years of experience teaching and advising college students, I can give them the support they need--academically, emotionally, and socially--to make the most of their college years.

Based on a lifetime of work in academia, I offer a session for high school students and their parents called "A Smarter Way to Think About College." In this presentation, I explain how to choose a college more intelligently, by ignoring the factors that don't have any impact on the education they'll get in college, and how to focus on the factors that really matter.  I have given this presentation several times to IEC's and their clients.

I also offer a 4-session summer pre-college bootcamp, "Ready, Set, Think," based on my book.
