Description
The laws and policies impacting higher education seem to change on a daily basis! This session will cover the who, what, where, when, why, and how of advocacy work, empowering members to understand how to keep up with the changes and issues at play, how to join advocacy efforts in their state and nationally, how to facilitate dialogue and foster relationships with folks in power, and how to take both big and small steps to impact our own profession and access for all students.

Deb is the current co-chair for the HECA DEI committee, the community co-chair for the Triangle/Eastern NC IEC group, a regional coordinator for HECA, and the co-host of UnPlugged. In her three years as co-chair for NC Government Relations for SACAC, she gained deep insights into the legislative process and how even small steps can make a big difference in higher education policy; she's excited to share her experiences with members and, in turn, learn about their work!

Meaghan Rysdale is the founder of "Hoosier Academic Coaching," now known as "The College Broker", and works to assist students across the US as an independent educational consultant. She is currently a residential Master's Candidate at the Harvard Graduate School of Education and works as a policy liaison in Indiana on educational initiatives that impact the lives of the students she works with. Previously she has taught a variety of courses on politics and policy and assisted with recruitment and retention programs in Admissions at Indiana University Bloomington.
