My interest in admissions began as a prospective graduate student. I won a full-ride scholarship for one year of graduate school through the Rotary Foundation, but it had a catch: I was required to use it abroad. Where would I go and what would I study?
I imagined the possibilities and enrolled in a master’s program in Cultural Anthropology at a private Mexican university: La Universidad de las Américas-Pueba. It was an adventure! I followed the master’s with a teaching position in South Korea and worked at Willamette University’s study abroad office. Then for fourteen years, I pursued a career as an academic advisor at colleges and universities around the United States. I’ve advised undeclared college freshmen and sophomores, STEM, and study abroad students. I have also coordinated disabilities services and am familiar with college-level accommodations.
I received my college counseling certificate through the University of California-Riverside. I have three years experience as an admissions application reader at two schools where I have the first vote on the admissions decision for international students. Over these last three years I have read approximately 2,000 applications, so I have strong opinions on college essays! I can help you student write an essay that will capture the attention of admissions officers.
I have worked in various roles for the following schools: Johns Hopkins University, University of Texas-Austin, Willamette University Salem and Pacific Northwest College of Art, Bentley University, Connecticut College, Bellevue College, and Clackamas Community College. Let me put that experience to work for you. I can help your student choose their own adventure. Let’s put a plan in place!
About half of my students choose to apply to schools both in the USA and abroad. I'm happy to help students no matter where they are located. I understand education systems and transcripts from around the world and I have personal experience as an international student and the parent of an international student too!
