Description of Experience : Colleen Lamon is a certified independent college admissions counselor and the owner of Colleen’s Creative Consulting based in Yuba City, California. For the past 10 years, Colleen has counseled high school and community college students in identifying and gaining admission to the “best fit” colleges and universities for each student. Student clients have gained admission to all University of California campuses, numerous Cal-State University campuses, and dozens of out-of-state and private colleges.
For the past two seasons she has served as a mentor to first generation college applicants in association with the Partners Program in the College Counseling Collaborative based in Oakland, California. Through the Program, she assisted an applicant who was granted a Gates Millennium Scholarship.
She is a graduate of the University of California, Santa Barbara, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Liberal Studies, and the Extension University of California, Berkeley certification program in College Admissions and Career Planning. She is a member of the Western Association for College Admissions Counseling and the National Association for College Admissions Counseling. She previously worked as a “Senior Coach” at the ESM Group, a Sacramento based independent counseling firm before starting her own practice.
During the past 27 years, Colleen has immersed herself in the local public education system. She has worked as a substitute teacher in grades K-12 and in the Spanish-English language program. She is a 16 year mentor for the Gifted and Talented Program, a 13 year advisor for the River Valley High School Rotary Interact Club, and an 17 year board member of the Yuba City/Toride, Japan international student exchange program.
Colleen’s community service activities include her 10 year membership and board of director’s position in the Yuba City Rotary Club, as a past member of the River Valley High School site council and accreditation committees, and a current member of the Yuba City Unified School District graduation requirements committee.
