Description of Experience : I have been working with students for over 18 years and have built my practice solely on referrals from my clients. I do not have a website nor do I advertise my services. In the 18 plus years, I have worked with hundreds of students, specifically on college counseling. In the 2019-20 admission season, I completed work with 20 students, two of them were seeking admission to medical school and two seeking MBA programs. I am now taking 10-15 seniors each year. I have about 10 juniors, 10 sophomores and a handful of freshmen that I meet with twice a year, as well. Since every child has a different set of needs, I charge hourly instead of offering a package. My clients sign a letter of agreement that outlines the responsibilities of the student. My clients are free to stop working with me at any time for whatever reasons, such as budget, an early recruiting option, etc. I want the students to take ownership of the process and serve as a guide and instructor. I bill my clients monthly, but some like to pay after each session. I have students attending public and private schools in Houston, New York, California and throughout Texas. I have one or two pro bono students every year that are referred to me by a number of resources. Every year, I am invited to speak at schools, private and educational organizations to share my knowledge of this exciting process. I never charge; this is my way of giving back. I work collaboratively with colleagues that I have met through HECA and a Houston IEC group. This year I have brought in a wonderful associate whom I am mentoring and who brings years of experience as Certified Speech Pathologist and teacher at University of Houston.
Besides my classroom experience teaching speech and drama privately and at The Kinkaid School, I have held numerous administrative positions. As Director of Kinkaid Summer Courses and Camps, I was basically the head master of the school, creating the curriculum, hiring the teachers, overseeing the instruction, marketing the program and creating the educational environment for the summer programs. I also served at the ISAS Conference Chair in 1996 and throughout the years have held multiple workshops to teach presentation skills. I am all about the child. The enlightened work on multiple intelligences has taught us to look beyond test sources and written evaluations, to realize that children are capable of learning and excelling when the whole child is taken into consideration. I use an interdisciplinary approach to the admission process, including the parents as resources and teaching the child how to use this often complicated and arduous process as a time of personal discovery and enlightenment.
