Description of Services : I work with students to analyze what they’re looking for in a college, what criteria are the most important to them, in which environment they succeed, and what they can afford. We create a college list together, explore, and re-assess, until the student has a final list.
I help students create a testing strategy, if necessary, and can refer to test prep or self-study, whichever will be the most successful. I help with college visit strategies, whether in-person or virtual, and help prep for interviews. My goal is to reduce stress and let students enjoy their Senior year by working through the Summer on applications and essays. When decisions are in, I help students find the best academic and financial fit, and talk about the transition to college—a critical conversation I find most consultants omit, mostly because students tend to move on from us once they’ve finished the process.
Description of Experience : For 10 years, I worked as a college advisor in a college-prep public high school, starting as a parent volunteer and advancing to the primary college process and application advisor from 2011-2016. In Fall 2016, I left high school advising to become an independent college consultant, offering comprehensive, one-on-one college search and application advice.
Prior to my career in college consulting, I worked for 25 years in marketing, public relations and market research in both professional and pro-bono capacities. I have served on the Boards of the Riverdale School Foundation (Chair) Marylhurst Early Childhood education (Chair,) have Chaired the Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI) annual Gala twice, and have presented to the Portland Area College Counselor Consortium (PACCC) about the transition from High School to College (2018.). In 2021 I joined the Board of Directors at Willamette University in Salem, OR
