Description of Services : I have been working in the higher education consulting sector since 2008, and, since 2018, have owned and operated my own company, Edurizon. I established this company after receiving the Education Consultant Certificate from U.S. News Global Education, with the specific aim to explore a more effective and suitable path for Chinese families in international education consulting and planning. It is in furtherance of that aim that I now wish to join HECA.
I set up my own firm to address the fact that the Chinese school system rarely encourages students to write essays that are introspective, creative, analytical or discursive - all skills that help create a good application essay. And because of that many students very much struggle in writing essays. Accordingly, my company focuses on developing students’ reading skills, for example by providing reading lists and conducting regular reading clubs to enhance their comprehension and output.
Sector-wide, the current business model has turned education consulting into a commodity, and the process tends to be bilateral - the parents pay large consulting fees and identify target schools. The student’s needs and interests are very much a minor consideration. I aspire to rebuild a triangular structure of reciprocal communication between consultants, parents and students, allowing the process to be more objective, complete and adaptable within a framework of equal communication.
Description of Experience : I set up my own firm to address the fact that the Chinese school system rarely encourages students to write essays that are introspective, creative, analytical or discursive - all skills that help create a good application essay. And because of that many students very much struggle in writing essays. Accordingly, my company focuses on developing students’ reading skills, for example by providing reading lists and conducting regular reading clubs to enhance their comprehension and output. My support has helped students get into many top schools - Harvard, Columbia, UPenn, MIT, Oxford, Cambridge - but I am just as proud of the many times I have helped my clients find the perfect program at a lesser-known school they might not otherwise ever have considered. Indeed it’s those students and their families, in general, with whom I develop long-term friendships. That means a lot to me.
